Who We Are

Founded in 2015 by Shelancia Daniel, The Creativity Shell began with two sewing machines at a dining room table in Kingwood, Texas. What started as a small sewing class for children quickly grew into a full creative campus serving hundreds of students each week through sewing, fashion design, quilting, cooking, STEAM, and life-skills programming.

From working with human trafficking survivors to teaching in libraries and juvenile facilities, our mission has always remained the same:

To use creative trades to educate, inspire, and empower the next generation of makers.

We believe sewing builds more than garments — it builds confidence, problem-solving skills, resilience, and self-esteem. When young people feel capable and creative, they are less vulnerable to negative outcomes and more prepared for meaningful futures.

What Is #SewNextGen?

#SewNextGen is our global initiative to introduce hundreds of thousands of new students to sewing over the next decade.

But we cannot do it alone.

Instead of competing, we are connecting.
Instead of gatekeeping, we are sharing.
Instead of isolated programs, we are building a united movement.

This network will:

• Feature sewing programs for kids across the U.S. and around the world
• Share patterns, curriculum ideas, and teaching strategies
• Connect educators to supplies, industry partners, and sponsorship opportunities
• Highlight success stories and student impact
• Create annual gathering opportunities and collaborative events
• Advocate for sewing in schools and communities
• Strengthen the sewing and quilting industry by growing the next generation of makers

When more kids sew, everyone wins; educators, fabric stores, machine dealers, designers, manufacturers, and most importantly, the children.

Why This Matters to the Industry

The future of the sewing and quilting world depends on today’s children.

If we want thriving quilt shops, innovative designers, vibrant fashion programs, and strong creative communities 10–20 years from now, we must intentionally invest in youth today.

By creating an inclusive, collaborative network of sewing educators:

• We increase visibility for kids’ programs
• We share what works and what doesn’t
• We prevent burnout by supporting one another
• We create pipelines from beginner sewing to advanced artistry
• We show the world that sewing is not outdated — it is innovative, empowering, and essential

Together, we can shift the narrative from “sewing is dying” to:

Sewing is thriving because kids are leading the way.
