A Nationwide Initiative to Make school & Afterschool Sewing Cool and Inspire the Next Generation of Creators!
The Creativity Shell, founded by Shelancia Daniel, is excited to announce the launch of #SEWNEXTGEN, a nationwide campaign to introduce 250,000 children to the art and skill of sewing over the next 10 years. The program is designed to support sewing shops, educators, schools, libraries, and community organizations with the tools they need to teach sewing in fun, accessible, and age-appropriate ways. Through #SEWNEXTGEN, afterschool programs will become more engaging, skill-building, and inspiring/preserving the art of sewing while empowering the next generation of creators.
A Visionary Leader in Sewing Education
Shelancia Daniel is a trailblazer in creative education. She founded the Creativity Shell with a mission to teach sewing, design, and life skills to children in schools, shelters, and community spaces. What started with just two sewing machines has grown into a movement that reaches thousands of young learners each year. Through sewing, Daniel has shown that children can develop not only fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities but also resilience, confidence, and independence.
The Creativity Shell operates with a deep commitment to fostering hands-on learning experiences that promote creativity and life skills. With structured programs, afterschool classes, camps, and community partnerships, the organization has proven that sewing is more than just a craft—it’s a powerful tool for personal growth and empowerment.
What the #SEWNEXTGEN Program Offers

Supporting Schools and Educators: Helping school districts and teachers bring sewing back into classrooms with curriculum development, training, and ongoing support.
Creating Community Engagement Opportunities: Connecting shops, schools, libraries, and youth organizations to broaden access to sewing.
Encouraging Creativity and Confidence: Making sewing accessible to kids so they can express themselves while gaining valuable skills for the future.
Building the Future of Sewing, One Stitch at a Time
“Our goal with #SEWNEXTGEN is to inspire 250,000 children to sew in the next decade,” said Shelancia Daniel. “This program is about more than teaching a craft… it’s about building creativity, independence, and confidence through hands-on learning. By working with sewing shops, libraries, and school districts, we’re bringing sewing back into schools and ensuring kids everywhere have access to these life-changing opportunities.”
