Creativity Shell Heads to Chicago to Teach the First-Ever “Kids Camp” at the Fabric & Fiber Craft Festival

The Creativity Shell, a Houston nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and inspiring the next generation of makers, is bringing its award-winning youth sewing programs to Chicago this May. Founder Shelancia Daniel and her team will host the first-ever Kids Sewing Camp at the Fabric & Fiber Craft Festival, offering children an exciting opportunity to explore creativity through hands-on textile arts.

The special camp experience will introduce young makers to sewing, crafting, and creative design through fun, beginner-friendly projects. Campers will learn foundational sewing skills while creating unique handmade items they can take home and proudly share.

Sewing machines for the camp will be generously sponsored by BERNINA, a global leader in sewing technology and a longtime supporter of youth sewing education. The partnership ensures that students will have access to high-quality machines while learning the fundamentals of sewing in a supportive and engaging environment.

The Chicago camp also supports the Creativity Shell’s national initiative, #SewNextGen, an ambitious campaign to introduce 250,000+ new students to sewing over the next decade. Through partnerships with schools, fabric shops, libraries, and creative organizations across the country, the program seeks to restore sewing as an essential life skill while inspiring creativity, confidence, and innovation in young people.

“Teaching children to sew is about so much more than fabric and thread,” said Shelancia Daniel, founder of the Creativity Shell. “It’s about building confidence, developing problem-solving skills, and showing kids that they have the power to create something amazing with their own hands. We are incredibly excited to bring this opportunity to Chicago and inspire even more young makers.”

At the Fabric & Fiber Craft Festival, children attending Kids Camp will experience a dynamic, hands-on learning environment led by experienced educators from the Creativity Shell. Projects will blend sewing with elements of art, design, and creativity, allowing campers to explore their imagination while learning valuable skills.

This milestone event marks another step forward for the Creativity Shell’s mission to expand youth sewing education nationwide and empower the next generation through creative trades.
